This section contains information that is relevant when importing from FBX format into XR.
|
FBX (Filmbox) is a proprietary file format (.fbx) by Autodesk that provides interoperability between digital content creation applications. |
Importing avatars
The FBX importer will convert skeletons to either a Skeletal Animation or a Skeletal Model.
For more information, see Avatars.
Importing meshes
Mesh transparency takes its value from the Material. Meshes do not need to be triangulated before or during export because the FBX importer itself will triangulate them.
Special case: Animated Geometries from Maya must be triangulated before import.
Importing animated geometries
Some meshes will import as Animated Geometries. For more information, see Animated Geometries.
Keyframe animations
Keyframe Animations are supported and will automatically import for supported object types.
For more information, see Keyframe Animations.
Assigning shaders
The shader can be assigned manually using the User Parameters. If not the FBX importer will look at available Mesh properties and select a shader.
For more information, see Shader Assignment.
Visibility attributes
The FBX import may or may not import visibility attributes. For more information, see Visibility Attributes.
User parameters
Scene objects can be enhanced with specific User Parameters in order to convey these information into the converted MWX to be used by the platform for several functions (shader and material assignment, extra params, shadow related params).
FBX exporting presets
In order to export FBX content that is optimized for importing into XR framework, it is important to properly configure the modeling tool. For more information, see FBX Exporting Presets.
