Use the Select mode in the 3D view to select content. This mode is for navigating the context, so you can select and configure nodes.

Turn on Select mode
-
Click the Select button in the 3D View toolbar.
Select an element
-
Click on an element in the 3D view to select it.
-
If the element is associated to a logic node, the element is highlighted and the node is selected in the Node Table.
-
If the element is not associated to any logic node, the element is highlighted and the corresponding entry in the Scene Explorer is selected.
-
-
Double select an element in the 3D view to select it in the Scene Explorer even though the element is associated to a node.
Multi-selection
After the first element is selected, it is possible to perform an additional or opposite selection by holding the Shift or Ctrl key, respectively, and selecting other elements. If the first selected element is a logic node, only elements having a logic node can be selected. Otherwise, if the first selected element has no associated logic node, all others will be selected in the Scene Explorer.
Use the Graphic Context Editor Parameters dialog to select highlight (silhouette) style and colors.
Note: You can select both 2D and 3D elements separately, but cannot select both mixed 2D and 3D together.

When the selection mode is active
-
The currently-selected elements are highlighted.
-
All active Item type nodes are highlighted with the chosen color and start to blink when under the cursor. This applies if the Highlight Item Show mode is set to all in the Graphic Context Editor Preferences and you are selecting the nodes.
-
When currently-selected elements are 2D nodes supporting text input, the keyboard input is directed to the node for text entry. During this time, navigation key sensors and keyboard shortcuts for the 3D View in the Graphic Context Editor are temporarily disabled.
When the drag selection mode is active
Enable the drag selection button to drag a rectangle on the screen that selects content from the 3D view. Selection uses the same approach as on-select selection, by adding to the selection items in the rectangle.
Note: When the drag selection is active, the navigation camera turning behavior that is linked to mouse drag is disabled.
You can customize drag selection behavior through the Graphic Context Editor Parameters on the Area Selection tab

When the selection mode is not active
When selection is not active, you cannot select anything by clicking in the scene.
However, you can select a node in the Node Table or an item in the Scene Explorer and the corresponding element in the scene will be highlighted.
