Inside the FGI configuration, there is a parameter named realisticShadows. This parameter controls how the shadows are applied to the colored pixel.
Scenario for realistic shadows
-
Realistic Shadows are useful when there is a Sun light and you want this light to cast shadows.
-
In this situation, common shadow flickering on the Meshes' faces is prevented, because the faces are already in shadow from the light point of view. By adding the lighting result of the Probes and the other realtime Lights, the shadow is not completely black. It also takes the ambient and the other light's colors. In this mode, the shadow color is fixed to zero. The shadows are linked to the Sun contribution value, so if the Sun contribution is zero, the shadows are not visible.

There might be situations when the Sun light does not contribute any lighting to the scene, or when you deliberately want the shadows to be applied above all the scene's lighting, or maybe you just want colored shadows. For these situations, the realisticShadows parameter must be set to False. The shadows are applied to the final pixel color, which includes all the lighting contributions.
