Orbit Target in 3D View

The Orbit Target button enables and disables rotation around the target. The rotation target refers to the pivot around which the camera rotates whenever the user performs a rotation. A small white circle displays to represent this point and make it easier for the user to understand around what they are currently rotating.

You can customize what type of target is used at the opening of a graphic context with the Orbit Target setting on the Navigation tab of Graphic Context Editor Parameters. The target type can always be changed at runtime from a dedicated button on the 3D View toolbar.

Dynamic rotation target

Dynamic rotation target is calculated with the following rules.

  • Dynamic Orbit Target is initialized at 1 meter in front of the camera.

  • Dynamic Orbit Target follows the camera when panning or shifting in a parallel fashion, meaning that if the target was at 1 meter from the camera position along its Z axis, after a pan or a shift it will be moved to be again at 1 meter from the new camera position along its Z axis.

  • Dynamic Orbit Target is set to the focused mesh center whenever focus is performed by pressing the F key on the keyboard or by using the dedicated 3D View toolbar button.
