Manage channels

Channels represent the node fields animated by the clip.

Types of channels

There can be two type of channels:

  • curve — Supports interpolation among keyframes.

  • impulse — Triggers events in particular frames.

Channels are represented in a table and grouped by nodes.

Column

Description

Image

A different image allow to easily distinguish between curve and impulse channels.

Name

Name of the channel node field.

Value

Representation of the value of the channel field in the currently selected channel.

Selecting channels

Selected channels display a different color and interpolation lines when they are curve type.

Select a channel

  • Click on the channel on the table or on the timeline.

Multi-selection is supported with standard functionalities (Shift selection and Ctrl selection).

Node automatic selection

When selecting a node in the Graphic Context Editor, from either the viewport by clicking on it in the 3D View or by the Node Table , the corresponding channels group is automatically selected. Automatic selection applies only when the object node channels are not filtered out.

Adding channels

You will need to select one or more fields to add to a new channel. You can add multiple fields even mixing curve and impulse types. There are different ways to add channels.

Add channel through the Add Channels panel

  1. Select the Add Channels button. This opens the Add Channels interface that enables you to select which node fields to add to the clip.

  2. Select one or more fields to add.

  3. Confirm selection by pressing OK or discard by pressing Cancel.

Add a channel through the graphic context

  1. Open the animation clip editor.

  2. Select an object in the scene (2D or 3D objects with a transform).

  3. Right-click to open the menu and hover over Animation Clip to expand the menu and show the possible options to select.

  4. Select the channel to Add or select Add Other to open the Add Channels to AnimationClip panel.

    Add a channel through the Node Properties

    Use this method to add a channel through the Node Properties. Note that the Add to Animation Clip option is available only when the Animation Clip editor is open and an AnimationClip node is selected.

    1. Open the Animation Clip editor.

    2. Select an object in the scene.

    3. In the Node Properties panel, right-click any property to open the context menu

    4. Select Add to Animation Clip and in the submenu select the type of the channel to be added, either Curve or Impulse. The Curve option is available only for fields which type supports it.

      Disabling channels

      Use the Enable/Disable Channel button to invert the activation state of a channel. When a channel is not active, it’s not included in the playback of the clip.

      Disable a channel

      1. Select one or more channels to disable.

      2. Select Enable/Disable Channel to change activation state.

        Removing channels

        Removing a channel will also cancel all its created keyframes.

        1. Select one or more channels to remove.

        2. Select Remove Channels or the Delete key when focusing the channel table.

          Filtering channels

          The channels table offers filtering functionalities that can be used when the clip has many channels.

          Text filtering

          When you start writing on the filter, the list of channels and the timeline are updated accordingly.

          Column filtering

          The column headers offer standard column filtering capabilities.

          Filtered out channels are still included into playback and recording.
