AVEVA™ XR Studio

Use FBX export from Blender

  • Last UpdatedJul 04, 2023
  • 2 minute read

The Blender Add-on Tool exports FBX content from Blender that is optimized for use by XR Studio.

  • When using Blender Add-on Tool to export FBX content from Blender, specific User Parameters are assigned to the exported FBX content. These parameters inside the exported/imported FBX file are used by XR Studio to render.

  • The User Parameters are principally used to assign material and shader to the exported content. The material information can include values and texture references.

  • In order to properly use exported FBX content inside XR Studio, you will need to add access to the referenced shaders and material textures.

Shaders and textures

The complete shader library is by default included in any created XR Studio project. However, this does not apply to the textures that are project dependent.

Therefore, to be able to properly consume the exported FBX content, you will need to provision the XR Studio project with the right textures.

Add texture sets to XR project

This procedure is required one time in a project that uses FBX content exported from Blender using the XR Blender Add-on Tool.

  1. Open the XR Studio project.

  2. Open any Graphic Context file.

  3. Select Add to open the Select Content to Add dialog.

  4. Navigate to Textures > AVEVA XR Blender Addon.

  5. Depending on the target project, select either:

    • Textures. These are for standard Windows projects or any mobile target-based on DirectX.

    • Textures Mobile. These are for mobile targets based on OpenGL as iOS.

  6. Click OK.

The Blender textures will be copied into the XR project. If a project is multi-target, it might require installing both texture sets.
