The 3D panel shows a configurable grid at the origin height. The grid is drawn based on the user preferences settings.
The axis of the grid passing through origin along the X axis is colored in red, while the line along the Z axis is blue.

Floor Grid related user preferences
You can set these parameters on the Graphic Context Editor Parameters dialog.

Grid Number of Cells (side). Represents the number of cells on each quadrant on each side of the grid. For example, when this value is set to 100, a grid of 100 x 100 cells is drawn in every quadrant of the scene, resulting in a grid of 200 x 200.

Grid Cell Size. Represents the size in meters of every single cell of the grid. Cells can only be squared. For example, using the example above of a grid of 200 x 200 cells, if the Grid Cell Size is set to 1, the grid will be a square with 200 meters side, with 200 rows and 200 columns of 1 meter each.
