External Servers module

The External Servers configuration module within the Management Center provides the user with the ability to configure external "OPC-HDA Compliant" data sources so that the AVEVA Mobile Operator system can retrieve historical data used within Trends (see Trends).

  • Provides the Administrator with an interface to configure the connection to and connection timing with the external OPC-HDA server.

  • Provides the Administrator with connection status and error logging with regard to the external server.

  • Provides the Administrator with a list of OPC-HDA "Tags" that are being used by Trend Configuration within the AVEVA Mobile Operator system for the specified server.

  • Trend Graphs are automatically downloaded to the mobile application making them available even when out of wireless range.

Note: "OPC-HDA" refers to "OLE for Process Control", an industry standard for accessing process control information. If you want to refer to OPC sample APIs, see the OPC Foundation Developer Guide available at https://www.opcfoundation.org.

System Administrators can assign permissions to individual AVEVA Mobile Operator Users to View, Modify or Edit the External Server module.

For more information on User permissions for External Server Configuration see External Servers Permissions.

To open the External Servers application, click its listing from the expanded "Administration" group.

The External Servers are Plant scoped. You can, however, add or move an External Server to the Tenant level by performing the following steps:

  1. From the Installation media, navigate to SQLScripts folder.

  2. Run the following scripts:

  • To add a new External Server at the Tenant level, run the script 'AddNewExternalServerToTenant.sql'.

  • To move an External Server from Plant to Tenant level, run the script 'LinkExistingExternalServerToTenant.sql'.

Only a Tenant administrator with required System Permissions can modify or delete the External Servers at the Tenant level.

Note: This documentation assumes that you have sufficient permissions to access the application and its features. Without sufficient permissions, functions within applications are inaccessible. For more information regarding the permissions required by the Management Center and its applications, see the AVEVA Mobile Operator web application.
