Using a a URL as an Attached Document allows the Mobile user to open a browser page instead of (for example) a PDF or graphic file. When accessed within AVEVA Mobile Operator app, Internet Explorer will launch on the mobile device to open the URL.
To use this feature, follow the steps below.
-
Create an Internet shortcut on your desktop, or other Explorer window open to a directory of your choice.
-
Open the Internet shortcut in a text editor, such as Notepad.
-
Delete all lines except the one that begins with "URL=," for example:
URL=http://www.invensys.com/ -
Save your edits to the file.
-
Create a new Attached Document entry, referencing the Internet shortcut file you just created and edited.
This option works with .URL files, or text files with a line containing (only) "URL=<webaddress>" where "<webaddress>" is the Internet address desired (open a .URL file in Notepad for an example).
Note: This method of attaching Internet shortcut is not supported in the modern Mobile App. Instead, you create a DOC or PDF file with the <webaddress>, where <webaddress> is the Internet address as a hyperlink, and attach the DOC or PDF as an attachment.
When accessed within AVEVA Mobile Operator app, the document will open in the document viewer app for your platform. Click the hyperlink in the document to launch the default browser on the device and open the URL.
Note that the text URL= is not mandatory for opening the browser in AVEVA Mobile Operator app for Android, Windows or iOS. The intended web address should simply be a hyperlink.
