Adding Configured Servers is done from the External Servers module within the Management Center.

  1. From the External Servers module workspace create a new server by clicking the New External Server icon (), choosing File→New, or using the shortcut "Ctrl+N". "New Server" appears in the Configured Servers list.

  2. Enter a Name for the Server (up to 100 characters) in the Name field that will be helpful for users of the system to determine what this server is.

  3. Enter a description for the Server (up to 255 characters) in Description that will assist users of the system in understanding more about what kind of data is available from this server. This description will display as a "Tool Tip" within the Management Center – Configured Servers List.

  4. Set the "Read cycle time" for the number of minutes that you want the service to sleep between queries to the OPC-HDA server.

  5. Click the "Custom" Tab to set the Connection string path for this server. Using the ellipsis to the right of the panel, select the appropriate OPC-HDA server.

Note: Browsing for a computer (by using the ellipsis) will not display computers on a different domain, or workgroup, from the one on which the computer running Management Center is a member. To configure an external server on a different domain or workgroup, type its address in the text entry area provided under "Connection String."

  6. Click the Save icon ( ), select File→Save from the Tool Menu, or use the shortcut "Ctrl+S"to save changes to the new Configured Server. If the user attempts to select another Configured Server or other Management Center application module when pending changes have yet to be saved, the prompt "ServerName has changed. Do you want to save the changes?" appears.

    • Clicking Save saves all edits to this External Server since the last Save.

    • Clicking Discard returns this External Server to its configuration as of the last time it was saved.

    • Clicking Cancel returns the user to the recently accessed External Server so that additional edits can be made before saving.
