New or changed Procedures, as well as certain lists (Severities, for example) must pass a validation process, which is initiated automatically when saving changes or manually by the user, before they can be Released. Validation ensures that all Procedure and List elements have a valid configuration.
While a Procedure may be saved while Invalid, the user first will be presented with an error message like the following:
There are 1 object(s) with error messages
Would you like to save the data?
Once validation has run, the invalid Procedure element(s) are highlighted in red, and hovering the mouse pointer over an element in error will display a tool-tip explaining the necessary correction.
For example, a Task set to a Data Type of "Lists" - but with no Response List selected - would cause validation to fail since the configuration is incomplete. Such a Task would appear as the example below:

Placing the mouse cursor over the invalid Task will display a tool-tip explaining why validation failed:

Tip: See Use the Errors/Warnings panel to aid validation for tips on making error correction easier.
After all invalid configurations in the Procedure are corrected, the Procedure may be saved without errors and marked Released for scheduling and completion.
