Create or edit schedule: Exceptions

  • Last UpdatedFeb 21, 2025
  • 3 minute read

This tab allows prevention of Procedure Instances that would be created as per the Occurrence settings.

For example, say the Occurrence tab is set to "Weekly – Every 1 week(s) on Monday." This will schedule the Procedure for every Monday always. Next, say that the Exceptions tab is set to "Monthly – The First Monday of every 1 month(s)." This will exclude the first Monday of every month.

In summary, the procedure will only fire on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Monday of every month (as each exists). The 1st Monday of every month will not be scheduled.

Note: Exception patterns always begin on the first date of the schedule, then begin counting exceptions from there. For example, take a Daily schedule in a given month:

1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th 11th 12th 13th 14th 15th 16th 17th 18th

If Exceptions are set on this schedule for every 4th day, the days boldfaced below will be excepted from the schedule:

1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th 11th 12th 13th 14th 15th 16th 17th 18th

This also applies to weekly and monthly patterns. For example, if a pattern is set to occur once every month starting with January:

Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec

and an exception is set to every 3rd month, the days boldfaced below will be excepted from the schedule:

Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec.

There are two ways to configure Exceptions:

  • Individual Days: This option allows the user to choose specific days for exception. This option could be used, for example, to exclude holidays.
To use this option, select a date by typing the desired value or selecting from the Calendar. Click the button to add the date to the list. To remove individual dates, left-click the date in the list and click the button. To remove all date entries, click the "Clear" button.

  • Pattern: This option configures a date pattern which intersects the Occurrence pattern at dates the user does not wish the Procedure to be scheduled. This option behaves precisely as the Recurrence section of the Occurrence tab. Please refer to Create or edit schedule: Occurrences for more information on using this option.

  • Help: Opens the help file to the section on creating and editing Schedules.

  • OK: Commits the changes on all tabs to the Procedure Instance or Series being modified.

  • Cancel: Aborts the creation / editing of the Procedure Instance or Series, discarding any changes made on any tab.
