Understand how Downtime masking works

When a Downtime reporting point is configured with masking, it reduces the requirement for data entry resulting from a single downtime event that also causes other downtime events; for example, a power outage that stops processing throughout the plant.
If multiple reporting points record the same event, AVEVA Production Management duplicates the data of the masking downtime event, and then updates the masked downtime events with the same data.
Why use Downtime masking?
Without masking, if a configured plant has each asset collect downtime events, and there is a power outage, then the operators at each asset fill out the details of the Downtime event. With masking, then only one operator is required to fill out the details of the masking event; AVEVA Production Management automatically updates the masked events.
What are the key concepts of Downtime masking?
AVEVA Production Management applies these rules when downtime events are processed, regarding masking:
-
When a Downtime event starts, AVEVA Production Management checks whether any of the masking downtime reporting points are in a downtime state. If they are, AVEVA Production Management marks the Downtime event as masked.
-
AVEVA Production Management does not mark a Downtime event as masked if the masking downtime reporting point is in the Pending On state (the Start Delay has not yet expired).
-
By default, a masked Downtime event remains open if AVEVA Production Management closes the masking downtime event.
-
AVEVA Production Management monitors and logs a masked Downtime event the same as a normal downtime event but marks it as masked. You can filter out masked events when you view downtime events in the client.
-
Only a real downtime event, not a virtual one, can mask a Downtime reporting point.
Editing a masking Downtime event automatically updates the Cause Location, Classification, Cause Code, Effect, and Explanation of its masked downtime events.
Note Masked Downtime events do not generate notifications.
