Add and configure an OPC HDA group

An OpcHdaGroup item is an item that you add to an OPC HDA data source in Project Explorer, and you are required to add at least one group to a data source. A group and the items that it stores represent a collection of variables or data points on an OPC HDA server.

A group monitors multiple variables as a collection, where the variables share common data acquisition characteristics. The properties of a group manage the polling of the variables, such as the polling rate and the use of a status variable. You can add multiple groups to a data source.

Prerequisite

Add the data source before adding a group.

To add an OPC HDA group

  1. In the Project Explorer, right-click the data source, and then click Add Group. An OpcHdaGroup item appears.

  2. Rename the item with a meaningful name.

  3. Configure the properties. For guidance in configuring the properties, see OPC HDA group properties.
