Add and configure a PI status variable

Before adding a status variable, add a PI group. You can add a status variable using the Add StatusVariable option in the PiGroup context menu or by accessing the lookup window from the StatusVariable property under the Group section in the Properties pane for PiGroup.
Note: A PiGroup item can have only one status variable.
To add a PI status variable using the Add StatusVariable option

In the Project Explorer, right-click PiGroup, and then select Add StatusVariable. A PiStatusVariable appears.

Rename with a meaningful name.

Configure the status variable properties. For guidance in configuring the properties, refer to PI status variable properties.
To add a PI status variable using the StatusVariable property lookup window
Use this option if you already have an existing status variable, even if it's in a different group, and want to use it for a specific PiGroup item.

In the Project Explorer, select PiGroup, and then in the Properties pane, select the browse button to open the Select item lookup window.

In the lookup window, expand the hierarchical tree and select an existing status variable.
This allows you to use a status variable from a different group.
