Server diagnostic messaging

  • Last UpdatedApr 10, 2025

The Server diagnostics messaging system runs on the server while the project is running, and performs three main activities:

  • Generates diagnostic messages for the running project. This includes messages reported by items as well as non-item specific messages, such as general project and system messages.

  • Logs generated diagnostic messages to the Windows Event service Application log on the computer that hosts Server.

  • Selectively reports a level of diagnostic messages to each currently connected Studio client. Only those messages with a severity level that matches the current setting of the TraceLevel filter for that instance of Studio are sent and display in the Server Messages window of that Studio client. This means that an individual instance of Studio can subscribe to a different level of server diagnostic messages than other instances of Studio. For more information, see Understand message severity levels.
