AVEVA™ Production Management

Guidelines about equipment mappings

  • Last UpdatedMar 24, 2025
  • 2 minute read
  • The equipment and the associated reporting point require a matching material item or material class.

  • AVEVA™ Production Management performs a scan through the children of the equipment up to the children of the parent site until it finds a reporting point that is associated to the same material to work out the mapping for each and every material permitted at the equipment.

  • The first matching reporting point found is mapped to the permitted material at the equipment.

  • If no matching reporting point is found, no mapping is performed.

  • If more than one matching reporting point is found, AVEVA™ Production Management uses the first match, which is in closest proximity to the equipment. Reporting points closer to the equipment take priority. Reporting points higher in the display order take priority.

  • Item-based associations take precedence over class-based associations.

  • If AVEVA™ Production Management does not find a match at item-level , it seeks a match at the class-level.

The preceding rules apply equally to all reporting point types with the exception that lot group reporting points don’t have item-level associations.

Example: Mapping process between equipment and reporting points

This example demonstrates how mapping rules are implemented in the automatic mapping process between equipment and reporting points.

In this scenario, there are two work centers: Product Coal Processing and Raw Coal Processing.

Raw Coal Processing work center

Raw Coal Processing has two child reporting points: Raw Coal Lots and Raw Coal Quality.

The permitted materials for the Raw Coal Processing work center are:

Class

Item

AllowedMaterial

Raw Coal

AllowedMaterialClass

Coal

AllowedMaterialClass

Iron Ore

For each of the permitted materials or material classes, AVEVA™ Production Management searches for the closest three reporting points in proximity to the work center and maps the work center to those reporting points. It begins with child reporting points and works it way up through the parent site level, and then the parent area level.

Product Coal Processing work center

Product Coal Processing does not have child reporting points. The permitted materials for the Product Coal Processing work center are:

Class

Item

AllowedMaterial

none

AllowedMaterialClass

Coal

AllowedMaterialClass

Iron Ore

There are only two material classes to map, and no material. Therefore, the reporting point association results are:
