Use cause codes and relationship matrixes

Limiting the valid cause locations

You can configure Downtime to limit the number of valid cause locations. This reduces the amount of input required of operators and minimizes mistakes. You can base a reduced list of available cause locations for a downtime event on the following:

  • The location where the downtime event was recorded (static list of locations).

  • The event or alarm from SCADA that is associated with the downtime event (with the use of event areas and event masks).

What is a relationship matrix?

The relationship matrix associates cause codes with classifications and effects.

  • You can assign a relationship matrix to a location.

  • You can assign a relationship matrix to an equipment type.

  • You can assign an equipment type to a location.

  • You can assign additional cause codes, classifications, and effects to the relationship matrix at a location that has an equipment type (with an existing relationship matrix).

The relationship matrix reduces the opportunity for inaccurate information recording, because:

  • The operator selects a relationship that is relevant to the equipment and location.

  • Operators cannot make up new relationships, or use different terminology each time they fill in a downtime event.

This makes data analysis far more dependable as you use consistent information across the entire operation for statistical and comparative purposes.

Studio Add Relationship dialog box showing Cause Code, Classification and Effect pane.

AVEVA Production Management uses the relationship matrix a specific downtime event depending on its cause location. After a user selects a cause code, the relationship matrix filters the classification and effect lists. If the user then selects the effect, the relationship matrix then filters the classification list. You can select the fields in any order and the relationship matrix filters the other fields accordingly.

When you manually edit data for the downtime event, AVEVA Production Management uses the relationship matrix that is defined for the cause location, and provides the allowed values.
