Break down energy consumption further

After you start recording a KPI such as Energy per Ton for the entire plant, it is useful to break this down further. For example, you can examine Energy per Ton by Area of the plant.

Energy consumption by area

Understanding how energy is being used around the plant is a first step to understand energy consumption. In the following chart is a high-level overview of energy consumption by area: the Mining, Processing, and Services areas.

You can see that the Processing area consumes the highest amount of energy.

Energy consumption by capture location

We know that Processing is the highest consuming area within the plant, so we may want to drill-down into this area to take a closer look at how energy is used in the Processing sub-areas. We can see that most energy is being used in the grinding process.

Energy consumption by feed type

If the grinding process consumes the highest amounts of energy in the plant and therefore, the highest operational cost, we might look at grinding more closely and break it down into product groups. Which product types are consuming the most energy in the grinding process?
