Add and configure an OLE-DB data source

An OLE-DB Data Source item establishes a connection to an OLE DB-compliant database.
-
Stores the other OLE DB connector items that you add.
-
Sets the polling rate for the variables that you add.
You can add the data source to any Applications folder. A project can contain multiple data sources.
Prerequisites
You can take one of the following approaches when deciding where to add the data source:
-
Place it in the hierarchy where you can logically associate it with the location.
-
Place it and other data sources in the same Applications folder so that you can logically associate it with data sources.
Note: If the AVEVA™ Production Management module that you want to set up uses the database in a data source that you have already added, you are not required to add another data source. For example, Maintenance and Cost use data from different external database tables; if the two tables exist in the same database, you can add the one data source.
To add an OLE-DB data source
-
Right-click an Applications folder, point to Add Item, point to Connectors, and then select OLE-DB. An OleDbDataSource item appears.

-
Rename the item with a meaningful name.
-
Configure the properties. For guidance in configuring the properties, see OLE-DB data source properties.
