How to set up Inventory

Because the set up of Inventory involves tasks that set up other modules, it is possible that you have already configured items that Inventory requires.

For example, Inventory requires that you configure materials and other AVEVA™ Production Management modules also use materials. Consequently, configuration instructions that are common to multiple modules (such as Work Centers) are located in a common area of this Help file rather than in the Inventory section.

These are the basic steps for setting up Inventory.

Prepare for Inventory

Before you set up Inventory, do the following:

  • Define the plant hierarchy, which comprises the Enterprise folder, Site folders, Area folders, and work centers.

  • Verify that you add work centers where you want Inventory to collect data.

Configure Inventory module settings

Configure project-wide settings for Inventory on the Inventory configuration item.

Define materials

Define each material that you want Inventory to collect data about.

Define lot behavior

Verify that you specify the lot behavior for each work center that Inventory uses.

Define lot generators

Specify the expression that defines how AVEVA™ Production Management generates a lot identifier.

Define material conversions

Specify the expression that defines how AVEVA™ Production Management converts a quantity of source material to a quantity of destination material when their units of measurement differ, such as the conversion of liters to kilograms.

Define material movements

Define each material movement that you want Inventory to record data about.
