AVEVA™ Production Management

Add and configure an OLE-DB data connection

An OLE-DB data connection is an item that you add to an OLE DB data source in the Project Explorer. It specifies connection settings to a database; for example, the database name and location, and security information such as the logon name and password.

A project can contain more than one data source, but a data source can contain only one data connection.

Prerequisite

Add and configure an OLE-DB data source.

Note: If the AVEVA™ Production Management module that you want to set up uses the database in a data source that you have already added, you are not required to add another data source and data connection. For example, Maintenance and Cost use data from different external database tables; if the two tables exist in the same database, you only add the one data source and data connection.

To add an OLE-DB data connection

  1. In the Project Explorer, right-click the data source, point to Add Item, point to OLE DB Connector, and then click Connection. An OleDbConnection item appears.

Studio project hierarchy view highlighting the OLE DB connection item.

  2. Rename the item with a meaningful name.

  3. Configure the data connection properties. For guidance in configuring the properties, see OLE-DB data connection properties.

If you are unsure about which values you require to configure the initialization properties of your OLE DB connector, you can use the Properties dialog box of a .udl file to build and save a string version of the connection information that you can examine. For more information, see About the OLE-DB connection string.
