Back up and restore a project with remote configuration database

Back up and restore a project with remote configuration database

When a configuration database is in a remote location, AVEVA Production Management service is unable to run the backup command to a local drive on the SQL Server since it may not have the appropriate operating system permission to do the task.

So if you have a remote database deployment and you want to back up your project, you need to perform some manual steps on the remote SQL Server.

Back up a project with a remote configuration database

  • Using the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, back up your project configuration database. To do that, on the Object Explorer pane, expand the Databases folder, right click on the configuration database (For example: AmplaProject), select Tasks, and then select Back Up. Save the file (Backup.bak) to your preferred location.

Restore a project with a remote configuration database

  • Using the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, restore your project configuration database. To do that, on the Object Explorer pane, expand the Databases folder, right click on the configuration database (For example: AmplaProject), select Tasks, and then select Restore.

Note: If you are moving your AVEVA Production Management service to a different computer and you plan to restore the configuration database in that same computer, you also need to back up the AuthStore.xml from the existing project setup.
