Performance counters

You can use Windows Performance Monitor to set up performance counters that monitor different conditions.

Data Interval

Set the data collection interval to 10 seconds. This provides a good balance between amount of information and file growth.

File format

You can use Binary file format or Text File (Comma Delimited) format. The binary format is more compact; however, the text file format is easier to work with and import into Excel or SQL Server.

It is important to consider how much data is captured and the rate of growth of the log files. Remember to check the log files periodically and clean them up.
