AVEVA™ Production Management

Licensing models

  • Last UpdatedJul 15, 2025
  • 2 minute read

The licensing model of AVEVA™ Production Management includes three license modes: Development, Production, and Consignment.

  • Production and Development licenses - All features are available for production and test environments.

  • Consignment license - This license runs for a 12-hour period, then requires a restart. It's valid for less than 60 days from the day it's generated. All features are available and no license consumption restrictions apply.

Important: We have made updates to the licensing software mechanism and to licensing point arrangements. You must use a license that is generated in the new license model.

The AVEVA™ Production Management licensing mechanism will check for:

  • A valid license software key

  • AVEVA™ Production Management software version

License consumption

Note: There are no more license categories for different types of reporting points.

These items will consume a license:

  • Reporting points

  • Work centers (Manage Inventory enabled)

  • Work unit (Manage Inventory enabled)

  • Recipes

A client connection will consume:

  • Client Access License (CAL)

License use for Inventory

  • All work center and work units consume a license, if Manage Inventory property is enabled.

  • Work centers and work units without Manage Inventory property enabled do not consume a license.

  • Input and Output work centers do not consume a license.

Invalid Inventory configuration

  • Some items will not be valid if they are not correctly configured with Manage Inventory property.

  • Material movement item with source or destination work center does not have Manage Inventory enabled.

  • Lot, Lot group, Material quality, Calculated quality must be associated with one or more work centers or work units with Manage Inventory enabled and with the same allowed materials for Material quality and Calculated quality. If not, they will still consume a license but this is invalid configuration and will show a validation warning.

  • You can not have a work unit with Manage Inventory enabled under a work center, unless the parent work center also has Manage Inventory enabled.

  • Material Quality and Calculated Quality records can still be inserted for a work center and work unit without Manage Inventory enabled, but when the events are processed they will result in an error.

Recipe

Recipe licenses are consumed by running recipe items in the project.

Client Access Licenses

Each client connection will consume a Client Access License (CAL). A new license will be generated with unlimited CALs. You can view current client connections on the Client Session page of Diagnostics.

Exceeding license count

If your project exceeds license count, the exceeded items will not start. The Diagnostics Licensing page will show an exceeded license message. The order of license consumption is determined by project hierarchy order.

  • When the project is started, the root items will start one after the other. When started, each root item will start all its child items.

  • If you right-click and start a selected item in Studio, the start runs for the selected item down through all the children.

  • If you do not want specific items in the project hierarchy to start automatically, you can set the StartupMode property to Manual instead of Auto. See Starting and stopping items.
