Knowledge captures important information from the people who are closest to plant production. Knowledge uses reporting point fields to collect data to create Knowledge records automatically.
In addition, Knowledge captures knowledge about your production process through the use of the following:
-
Diary - Knowledge includes an online diary in which authorized staff can record their observations, suggestions, ideas, interpretations, and insights. Knowledge includes an online sketchpad that staff can use to add sketches to diary entries.
-
Documents - Knowledge can link relevant documents, video files, and image files to plant areas, products, and product groups so that authorized staff can immediately find the information they require such as equipment manuals, schematics, and operating procedures.

Example: Create an Operator Log
You can use the Knowledge module to provide Operators with an online shift log.
-
Operator Log - An operator log or shift log provides a record of the details that an operator observes and captures within a given shift. For more information on how to set up an operator log, see Sample configuration: Operator Log.

How does AVEVA Production Management record Knowledge data?
AVEVA™ Production Management calculates knowledge through the use of the following elements.
A Knowledge reporting point collect data to create Knowledge records automatically. |
A capture condition defines the condition that occurs to initiate a data capture. You can base a condition on period definitions; for example, per day or per shift, or time events; for example, every 15 minutes, or every week. |
A Knowledge field defines what data to record. For example, field properties can specify whether the field records data such as an identification number, a quantity, or a date. |
The Library folder of a Knowledge reporting point defines links to selected documents, video files, and image files on any network that AVEVA™ Production Management can access, including the WWW. Authorized staff can use AVEVA™ Production Management to view linked documents. The Library folder also includes a diary, which AVEVA™ Production Management uses to display Knowledge records, including records that an operator manually adds and edits. |
