What happens when you specify and apply OPC DA variables configuration to a project?

AVEVA™ Production Management does the following:

  • Creates an OpcVariable item to represent each variable that you selected to import. Where possible, AVEVA Production Management gives the OpcVariable item the same name and a compatible data type as the corresponding variable on the OPC HDA server.

  • Converts any special characters of the source variable name, including the dot character (.) to underscores to create the value of the Name property of the OpcVariable item. This conversion occurs because the Microsoft .Net Framework uses the dot character as an object separator. However, for the OpcItemID property, AVEVA Production Management uses the source variable name without conversion of special characters so that Server can still map to the correct variable tag on the OPC HDA server.

  • Places the newly created OpcVariable items in the OpcDaGroup item that you specified in the Show Variables from Group list of the configuration tool.

  • Deletes OpcVariable items from an OpcDaGroup item according to the group that you specified in the Show Variables from Group list of the configuration tool and the variable check boxes that you cleared for that group.

  • Applies the variable mapping indicators to the variables list of the configuration tool.
