Add and configure a PI variable

A PI variable item is an item that you add to a PI group. It represents a variable tag or PI point on a PI server. AVEVA™ Production Management updates the PI variable items every time the PI data source polls the PI server and detects changes to the values of PI points on the PI server.
You can add multiple variables to a project. Add a separate PiVariable item to the Project Explorer for each PI point on the PI server that you want to use.
Prerequisite
Add a PI group before adding a variable.
Guidelines
Use this procedure to add one variable at a time. If you want to add one or more variables simultaneously from a PI server, use the Configure Variables option in the PI group context menu. For detailed steps, refer to Add and delete PI variables.
When you add one variable at a time, AVEVA Production Management initially gives the PiPointName property and the Name property of the variable the same value. If you do not change the value of the PiPointName property; that is, it still contains the same value as the Name property, changes to the Name property cause AVEVA Production Management to give the PiPointName property the same value.
