Plan where to locate Metrics reporting points

You configure Metrics reporting points for different AVEVA™ Production Management users to suit their requirements to achieve their business goals.

Each user in the plant and business has a different focus. For example, a Chief Operating Officer (COO) may want to unify and streamline internal systems and procedures, while a Maintenance Manager may want to improve availability of the plant. Each user requires a different view of the facility, and therefore a different dashboard to suit.

The project hierarchy lends itself to locating dashboards at different levels to present the information relevant at that level.

Performance benchmarking period

We suggest that initially, during the performance benchmarking period, users reference the same Metrics page. This enables users to understand the current capabilities of the system and to form a joint strategy to address limitations. When the strategy is identified, you can create additional dashboards for each user to enable them to track the progress of their individual improvement targets.

This approach has a number of benefits including:

• Increases common understanding of the capacity and limitations of the plant.

• Creates a team approach to improvement initiatives, strategy, and goal setting.

• Enables you to understand the overall plant dynamics before you look at the details in each section.

• Reduces the initial complexity for users and increases the likelihood of adoption.

The critical component of this process is the first step: to measure and benchmark performance before and after changes are made to processes, equipment, suppliers, or anything else that could affect the performance of the plant. Without this step, changes are unknown risks with non-quantifiable outcomes.
