Draw Secondary Centerlines

  • Last UpdatedOct 03, 2025
  • 2 minute read

Secondary centerlines are added to the drawing canvas by dragging from the Symbol Palette, P&ID Explorer or directly from the grid.

Secondary centerlines are created as connectors. By default, the created secondary centerlines are referenced to the appropriate piping network segment and piping network system.

Connected Items

Secondary centerlines can be connected to centerlines or associated with a trim pipe.

The first connected and second connected values indicate the items that are connected to a secondary centerline.

To display the first connected and second connected attributes, select the secondary centerline on the drawing canvas.

Open the Attributes window and navigate to the First Connected or Second Connected attribute.

If the secondary centerline is connected to an existing centerline at the start point only when drawn, it is associated with the piping network segment of the connected centerline.

If the secondary centerline is connected to an existing centerline at the end point only when drawn, it is associated with the piping network segment of the connected centerline.

If the secondary centerline is connected to an existing centerline at both the start and end point when drawn, it is associated with the piping network segment of the centerline connected to the start point.

If the secondary centerline is not connected to an existing centerline when drawn, the prompt Select owner centerline or trim annotation is displayed.

Click to identify the owning pipe segment or trim pipe.

The secondary centerline is associated with the piping network segment of the selected centerline or trim pipe.

Attribute Propagation

If the created secondary centerline is connected to an existing piping network system, the following attribute values are propagated from the associated piping network system to the secondary centerline:

  • Bore

  • Number

  • Pipeline Fluid Specification

  • Pipeline Insulation Specification

  • Pipeline Specification

  • Pipeline Tracing Specification

Additional attribute values can be defined to propagate from the centerline to the secondary centerline using the attribute propagation settings in the Configuration module.

Note:
Only unique attributes are propagated from the piping network system and piping network segment, non-unique attributes are not populated.

Note:
If an owning centerline or trim pipe is deleted, all associated secondary centerlines are deleted.

Refer to Symbol Palette, P&ID Explorer, Add Grid Records and Attribute Propagation for further information.
