Upload On-premises Dabacon Project to CONNECT Project

Upload On-premises Dabacon Project to CONNECT Project

The Project Upload utility allows the upload of an existing on-premises Dabacon Project to CONNECT cloud-based storage. After upload, the project can be associated with one or more edge connectors to make it available for use with AVEVA Unified Engineering and AVEVA Administration.

This is a one-off upload per on-premises Dabacon Project.

Compatible foreign/reference projects can either be uploaded or the on-premises projects used. The following parts of a Dabacon project are uploaded to CONNECT Cloud Storage:

  • Dabacon files. For example, all files in the project folder APS000.

  • Dabacon project files. For example, all files in the folders APSDFLTS, APSDIA, APSDWG, APSGCD, APSINFO, APSISO, APSMAC, APSPIC, APSPSI, APSSTE, APSTPL.

  • Dabacon Reference number information which enables reference numbers to be correctly generated when Dabacon elements are created.

The following do not need to be uploaded:

  • Compatible foreign/reference projects.

  • PML files and other customizations which reside outside of the standard project folders.

Prerequisites

Before uploading a project, AVEVA recommends the following:

  • For a Global Dabacon project, all data must be migrated to the hub and all satellites shut down.

  • The database must not be an update (non multiwrite).

  • If extract database(s) are in use then issue or drop all extract claims before upload

  • All users must exit the project.

  • A DICE check must be run on the project.

Depending on company workflows, either first create an empty Dabacon project using the AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum Administration dashboard and then upload the project using the Project Upload utility, or create the project directly as part of the upload process using the Project Upload utility.

CONNECT functionality is available to set up users with privileges to create projects, and other users to upload into those projects, but not create them.

The example displays the AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum Administration dashboard and the available projects.

The dashboard displays the status of each project. For more information, refer to the Status information on Projects Page in the AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum publication.

Upload Project

To upload the current project to CONNECT, in AVEVA Administration, select Project > Upload to AVEVA Connect to display the Upload to AVEVA Connect window.

Note:
The functionality is not available if the current project is already uploaded to CONNECT.

Use existing (pending) Project

Provides the functionality to upload an on-premises Dabacon Project into an AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum project which has previously been created though the AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum Administration dashboard. The AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum project must have the Pending status and the same Project Code as the Dabacon Project being uploaded. All pending projects, with the same project code as the current project, are available for selection.

The example displays the AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum Administration dashboard with a pending project.

Create Project

Provides the functionality to create a new AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum project on upload, without needing to have already created project through the AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum Administration dashboard. For more information, refer to Create Project in AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum Administration in the AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum publication.

Note:
The necessary CONNECT permissions are required to directly create a project. For more information, refer to AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum Cloud Roles and Permissions in the AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum publication

Solution

Displays the available AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum solutions. If there are multiple Spectrum Services on the CONNECT account, for example, using Folders or Communities, this field enables the selection of the Service to create the project in.

Name

Enter a name for the CONNECT project which consists of minimum three characters.

An error message is displayed below the Name box, if you enter:

  • A name shorter than three characters.

  • A name longer than 50 characters.

  • A command name :
    CON, PRN, AUX, NUL, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8, COM9, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, LPT4, LPT5, LPT6, LPT7, LPT8, LPT9.

  • Other than alphanumeric characters, spaces ( ), dots (.), commas (,), hyphens (-) and underscores (_).

  • Forbidden characters at name beginning or name end, for example, dot (.), comma (,) or space ( ).

  • An already existing project name and select Upload.

Note: The project name entry considers case-sensivity. That means you cannot enter projects named PlantSample and plantsample. The case-sensitivity prevents the risk of name clashes on the Project.

Description

Enter a description for the CONNECT project which is not longer than 500 characters.

Project code

Displays the code for the current project and cannot be modified.

Upload

Uploads the current project to the cloud.

During upload, a progress bar displays upload information. Large projects can take some time to upload.

A log file is generated and located in the Windows TEMP Path, for example: D:\Views\TMP\AVEVASpectrum- Project\UploadLog-ComputerName-20230210-104837.log

If the upload process is successful, a message displays.

The uploaded Dabacon project can be associated with an edge connector in the AVEVA Unified Engineering - Spectrum Administration dashboard in preparation for use in AVEVA E3D Design and AVEVA Administration.

If the upload process is not successful, an error message displays. The issues must be resolved before the project can be uploaded and subsequently used in AVEVA Unified Engineering and AVEVA Administration.
