Preview Import File

Use the Preview Import functionality to view the content of a conceptual model file prior to import. Import conflicts can be resolved. New, missing and modified classes can be identified. Changes to classes can be accepted or rejected.

The application automatically resolves conflicts by comparing multiple data points, including the object name, identity, unique internal identifier, and hierarchical relationships,. For example, parent and child objects. Conflicts can arise when objects are repurposed or relocated whilst retaining the unique internal identifier. New objects can be created and renamed, which, despite having similar properties, are distinct from existing objects.

When conflicts cannot be resolved automatically, you are prompted to resolve them manually. The process involves selecting the appropriate matched object and updating designated fields, until all conflicts are addressed. Unmatched objects are imported as new. If no matches are selected, all objects are treated as new, while the existing object in the current model is preserved.

Where necessary, unique internal identifiers in the import file are temporarily remapped to align with the current model, or new identifiers are created to treat objects as new entries.

The imported file can represent a complete model, a partial model, or a sub-model, and can contain both new elements and common components.

On the Data Model tab, in the Start group, click Preview Import File to display the Select file to preview window.

Use the Select file to preview window to navigate to and select the external file (model) to preview.

Select the *.ttl format file to be previewed.

If the conceptual model file is imported without any conflicts, the completed successfully message displays.

If the conceptual model file is imported with conflicts, the completed with warnings message displays.

Click Close to display the Resolve Conflicts window together with diagram views of the current model and the import file. Refer to Resolve Preview Import Conflicts for further information.
