AVEVA™ Engineering

Vocabulary

The vocabulary functionality is a set of concepts that are fixed for AVEVA Engineering. One such concept is decorating, decorating can be thought of as a mapping between the conceptual model and vocabulary elements.

Note:
There are different types of vocabularies that enable business logic for different domains. A functional item is a decoration from the simulation vocabulary, it enables a class to produce a physical and functional representation.

Decorating that class with the vocabulary entry for instrument allows AVEVA Engineering to work with the customer’s model. The customer can extend the model with subclasses of instrument and add attributes to meet their needs and all instances of all those subclasses will be handled as instruments by AVEVA Engineering.

Vocabularies and decorations can be specified for classes, attributes, associations, class associations and lists of values using the Properties window or the Grid View.

Deprecated vocabularies in the available items list are greyed out and disabled. Double-click a deprecated vocabulary in the current decorations list to remove the decoration from the model item. Once the decoration is removed, it is returned to the available items list, where it is disabled.

Functionality is available to display and fix vocabulary errors. Refer to Validate Vocabularies for further information.
