Import a Single Excel file to create several records with appropriate parts where cardinality is more than one

Use the functionality to import parent and parts with multi-cardinality where all the records of the parent and its parts are displayed in a single sheet.

  1. Create a db view of a pump with a nozzle and flange as parts.

  2. Identify the nozzle as a source element.

  3. Identify the flange as a source element.

  4. Map the columns to the source elements attributes.

  5. From the Manage tab in the Import group, select Import then List

  6. From the Select File to Open window, navigate to the excel sheet to be imported.

    Note:
    The excel sheet has different combinations of parent and parts data.

  7. Click Open to select the file and to display the Choose a Configuration pane of the Excel Import Wizard window.

  8. Select Database view(s), then click Next to display the Worksheet and Database View configuration pane of the Excel Import Wizard window.

  9. Select the checkbox to select the database view, then click Next to display the Excel column and destination element configuration pane of the Excel Import window.

  10. Select a excel column from the drop-down menu to identify which excel columns values are to be read

  11. Map the destination element type to create the records of defined type.

    Note:
    This is screen optional if no destination element types need to be mapped, all the records imported are created with the primary element type defined for the database view.

  12. Click Next to display the Association column configuration pane of the Excel Import Wizard window.

  13. Select an excel column to define the associations between the tags to be imported (which part needs to be associated with which parent).

    Note:
    If no excel columns are mapped the associations between the parent and its parts will not be established.

  14. Click Next to display the Excel and Database View column configuration pane of the Excel Import Wizard window.

  15. Based on the mappings carried out in step 11, dynamic worksheets are created where the view columns are mapped against each excel columns to be updated for the sheets listed.

  16. Click Next to display the Counter mapping pane of the Excel Import Wizard window.

  17. Based on the mappings carried out in step 11, dynamic worksheets are created where the counters are mapped for the sheets listed.

  18. Click Next.....

Is there another pane of the Excel Import window - Configuration options

Click Next to display th Save configuration changes then click Finish

An Excel import window is displayed showing the progress of the excel import. Upon successful the excel file (data of parts and parents is imported into the Engineering module The pump data along with Nozzle and Flange is imported in a single excel sheet.

Note:
Intermediate parts are also created when data is not provided from Excel.
