Assign Regions to Items for Placement on Auto-Generated Loop Drawings

Assign Regions to Items for Placement on Auto-Generated Loop Drawings

This use of this functionality is optional and is only required when using Loop Drawing templates that are used to generate Loop Drawings for control loops that require different numbers of insertion points.

When auto-generated Loop Drawings are created using such templates, in order to ensure that items are positioned in the right place on the drawing, auto-generated Loop Drawing templates can be divided into regions, each corresponding to a part of a loop. For example, areas, cabinets, rooms, systems, and so on. See Add Loop Drawing Template Regions for more information on why you might need to use this functionality and how to add regions to Loop Drawing templates.

To ensure in turn that items are located in the correct regions, when items that are to be part of a loop drawing generated using a template with regions are created (or edited), they can be associated with a specific location in the project. How exactly this is achieved will depend on the data model configuration of your project and how regions are defined in boundary templates.

Two examples of how location may be assigned to an item are:

  • Example 1: Incorporating the location into the name of the item.
For example, the “01” of “01-FT-0001” or “01-JBA-0001” being field area “01”.

  • Example 2: By setting a separate location attribute at the grid level or via the Attribute window of the item.

The method used depends on the Association attribute of the region, which is set when the boundary template for the region is created. See Create Boundary Template for further information.

Example 1: Location as part of the Name

In this example, the region used on the template has been set up with an Association attribute of Ref Areas:

For example, when a new Instrument or Junction Box is created, the area can be set as part of the name using the New Tag and Choose element windows:

Once created, the new item is added to the Project Breakdown Structure under the selected plant area. 01 in this example:

Example 2: Location as an Attribute

In this example, the region used on the template has been set up with an Association attribute of Ref Location:

Here, the control building DCS room "MUTHUR-6000" is set with the Ref Location of the DCS panel "DCS-1":

If Multiple Locations are Assigned

Note:
It is important to align the Loop Drawing template with the location data assigned to plant assets.

It is possible to assign items to more than one location, for example by applying both the above example methods to one item. In such cases, the software will not know which region to use to position the applicable symbols. A message notifying you of this will be displayed:

See Attributes and Project Breakdown Structure for further information.
