Creates a new data source as a copy of an existing data source, the copied data source can then be modified, if required.

  1. On the Report Designer tab, in the AVEVA group, click Data Source to display the Data Source Wizard.

  2. Select Copy to define a new data source as a copy of an existing data source and click Next.

  3. Select a definition set from the View Definition Set drop-down list.

The existing data sources are listed. Data sources come from three sources.

    Element Views

Element views are created automatically by the system. One element view is created for every base element type. Selecting an element view is an easy way to include data from one type of element in a report.

    Project Views

Project views are stored in a LEXICON dictionary database. Read access to the LEXICON database is required to see Project Views. Project Views can contain more complex data, and are set up by an administrator. A set of sample project views are included with the sample project.

    User Views

User views can be copies of Project views or Element views, or data sources created and stored locally.

A copy of the chosen view is taken for the report, the original view is not modified. Write access to important project resources is not required. For example, the LEXICON dictionary database.

  4. If required, filter the displayed views based on the owning database type of the elements.

View sets are used to group views together. This is used purely to help the administrator to group logically related views together, for ease of distribution and use.

  5. Select the data source to be copied and click Next.

The subsequent steps of the Data Source Wizard are identical to defining a new data source, the data source details are already populated and can be modified if required.
