Communications Between Locations

Global, inter-location communication is handled by a program known as the Global daemon.

A daemon is required at each location. The daemon is a process that runs on a computer, usually as a background process, without the need for any direct user interaction, and provides a service to other AVEVA products and other locations daemons.

Each project and location Global Daemon is started by a batch file created by the project Administrator and it is also important that write access to the Global Daemon batch files is restricted to the project Administrator(s)

Communication between the Daemon requires an internet connection, be this general internet or VPN tunnel connections. Refer to Networks and Communication Links for further information.

AVEVA Global Server uses Windows Communication Foundation WCF as the default security provider and the default is to communicate using port 8000 with basic HTTP protocol. Details of the additional security options available can be found under Windows Communication Foundation Configuration Files.
