Counter Options

Use to override the counter used for naming a tag. If the naming rules have counters the Counter Type functionality will be enabled on the New Tag window; default is Next.

First

Use to backfill counters (when a counter is overridden to a specific value, gaps in the counter values can result, these gaps can be backfilled using this functionality).

The Sequential checkbox is enabled when the number of tags requested is more than one.

How the backfill occurs can be specified - sequentially or un sequentially. To backfill sequentially, click to check the Sequential check box (default).

Sequential - all gaps in the counter values are checked, to determine if there is a range equal to the number of tags available. If the range is not available you will be unable to create the tags.

Non-sequential - the counter values are assigned where ever they are available. If there are no gaps the counter values will be assigned the next available counters. If there are gaps; but not all of the counters can be assigned, then the gaps will be filled first and the remainder assigned the next ones available.

Next

Use to assign the next available counter.

Override

Use to specify a user defined counter, in the Counter Value field enter the required counter. As previously described, the Sequential check box will not be enabled if the No of tags requested is one (the number must be more than one).

Note:
If it is not possible to have the requested number, the tag request is rejected. If the tag request is sequential and counters are not available in sequence then whole request is rejected.

Rename

The Rename Tag window is populated with the naming rule(s) associated with the selected tag. For renaming the default is Override and the current counter allocated to the selected tag is displayed.

Once the tag is renamed and a new counter allotted, the previous used counter is released for reuse.

Purge

Use this functionality to purge a element selected from a grid and release the counter allotted to it for re use.

Note:
Purge functionality is not available for a COR or Tag Management System and COR project.

To purge an element and release the allocated counter, the element must be first selected in the grid, then deleted before it can be purged.

If this functionality is greyed out you do not have the permission to carry out this task.

Once the purge has been accomplished a message in the Messages window ‘Purge: Element purged successfully’ (clearly displaying the difference between purged and deleted tags).

On purging a tag the following control elements will also be deleted:

  • Revision and status link elements controlling the tag

  • Counter elements.

    Note:
If the tag has parts and associations, these are also deleted.

    Note:
Older tags created will be purged of the same elements as new tags except the counter allotted will not be released and cannot be reused.
