Add Actuators

  • Last UpdatedOct 03, 2025

Actuators are added to the drawing canvas by dragging from the Symbol Palette, P&ID Explorer or directly from the grid.

Actuators can be placed directly onto an owning valve on the drawing canvas to create an association between the actuator and the valve. Actuators can also be positioned directly onto the drawing canvas and associated with an owning valve.

Note:
If an owning valve is deleted, all associated actuators are deleted.

Note:
An actuator can only be associated with a valve that has an Actuation decoration.

If the actuator is positioned directly on the drawing canvas, the prompt Select owner is displayed.

Click to identify an existing valve, the created actuator is associated with the selected owning valve.

Associated Valve

The can have actuator value indicates the actuators that are associated with a valve.

To display the can have actuator attribute, select the valve on the drawing canvas.

Open the Attributes window and navigate to the CanHave Actuator attribute.

If the actuator is moved or copied to a different position on the drawing canvas, or a different connection point on the same valve, the association between the valve and the actuator is retained.

If the actuator is moved or copied directly onto a different valve on the drawing canvas, the association of the actuator is updated to the new valve.

If the owning valve is copied, the associated actuator is copied with it.

If an actuator is connected to an instrument using a process instrument connection, an association is created between the valve and the instrument.

Refer to Symbol Palette, P&ID Explorer and Add Grid Records for further information.
