Restricted Lists

Use the Setup Restricted Lists window to link two attributes with lists of values, allowing values of one attribute to restrict the available values of the other attribute.

Note:
Restricted lists cannot be used with attributes that are defined to hold multiple case values.

In the following example, the value of the Oil System Type attribute restricts the available values of the Rating attribute on the Oil Filter class. The two attributes are not on the same class, so require a connection through a class association. If the attributes are on the same class, select the Use Same Class check box to display the other attributes of the Oil Filter class.

On selection of the second attribute, the primary list of values and sub-list restricting values are displayed in the Setup Restricted Lists window.

When an Oil System Type attribute is assigned the value Mounted On Baseplate (primary list of values), the available values that can be assigned to the Rating attribute (secondary list of values) are 1500, 300 and 900. A sub-list attribute value that is not selected for any primary list value is unrestricted and always available. In the example, this applies to values 125, 150 and 600. This should be done in preference to selecting all primary list values because new values are added as deselected by default, so will automatically be available.

Restricted lists can be identified in the Conceptual Model grid Attributes and Lists of Values views. The application displays the restricted list icon against both primary and secondary attributes and their assigned lists of values.

Datasheets

Restricted list of values attributes can be mapped as drop-down lists or radio buttons on datasheet instances. The values for both radio buttons and drop-down lists are refreshed and restricted as per the list of values. Restricted lists of values are only available on datasheet instances, templates remain unchanged.

Note:
All of the values for the attributes on the datasheet instance are imported/exported to Excel (restricted list of values functionality is not applied). Modifications can be made in excel and imported back using the Datasheet Excel Import Wizard, only modified values in the list of values are imported.
