Restricted Lists

  • Last UpdatedApr 08, 2024

Use the functionality available from the Setup Restricted Lists window to configure two attributes with lists of values thus enabling the available values on one attribute (the secondary) to be restricted by the selection from the values available on the other attribute (the primary).

Note:
When a secondary value is not secondary for any primary value, that secondary value is always available. Thus allowing any new value added to the secondary list to be immediately available in all selections, unless it is set to secondary for at least one of the primary values.

Note:
Restricted lists do not work with cases.

In the example shown below, the Oil Filter class and Rating attribute are used as the attribute on which its list of values are restricted. Both primary and secondary list of values are not in the same class and requires a connection through an association. Thus enabling the selection of an attribute from a different class.

If required, check to select Same Class check box to display the other attributes of the Oil Filter.

On selection of the second attribute, the primary list of values and sub-list restricting values are displayed in the Setup Restricted Lists window.

In the Conceptual Model grid and List of Values views, the restricted list icon is displayed on the secondary list attribute (in this example - Oil System Type).

Grids

From the oil filter instance, if Mounted On Baseplate is assigned to the Oil Filter attribute (primary list of values), the available values that can be assigned to Oil System Type (secondary list of values) are 1500 and 900 (always available) and 300.

Datasheets

Restricted list of values attributes can be mapped as drop down lists or radio buttons on datasheet instances. The values for both radio buttons and drop down lists are refreshed and restricted as per the LOV. Restricted LOVs are only available on datasheet instances, templates remain unchanged.

Note:
All of the values for the attributes on the datasheet instance are imported/exported to Excel (restricted LOV functionality is not applied). Modifications can be made in excel and imported back using the Datasheet Excel Import Wizard, only modified values in the LOV are imported.
