Revision Number Definition

Use the Revision Number Definition (REVNOD) element to define the display of the revision number. A REVNOD element must be created below a REVGRP Group element.
To create a REVNOD element, on the Home tab, in the Create group, select Create from the displayed drop-down list select REVNOD: Revision Number Definition. A REVNOD element is created and displayed in the Dictionary Explorer.

When a new element is created in the dictionary hierarchy using the Dictionary Explorer and if the Current Element Editor window is open, it automatically updates to display the default attributes for that element.
Note:
If the Current Element Editor window is not open, right-click in any Explorer window and select Current Element Editor.

After the creation of a new REVNOD element, use the Current Element Editor window to populate the attributes in the Current Element Editor.
Note:
Dependent upon the attribute, other related attributes are enabled or disabled accordingly.

Name |
Input a valid short name for the element in the text box, special characters are not allowed. Input a valid name for the REVNOD element in the text box, special characters are not allowed. |

Description |
Input a brief description of the element (can contain up to 120 characters of text). Input a brief description of the REVNOD element (can contain up to 120 characters of text). |

Type |
Displays the element type. |

Lock |
Select True from the drop-down menu to lock the element attributes. Select False from the drop-down menu to unlock the element attributes. |

Owner |
Display the owning element in the dictionary hierarchy. |

Displaying |
Once the REVNOD element has been created in the dictionary hierarchy, the parts, values and the formatting used when displaying the revision number can be defined.
From the Dictionary Explorer, right-click the REVNOD element from the displayed drop-down menu, select Edit Revision Number Definition.

The Revision Number Definition windows is displayed, use the functionality available to define parts, values and formatting for the revision number.

The revision is represented as a alphabetic numbering. |

Custom values |
Select Set to display the Custom Values Editor window:
Use the Custom Values Editor window to enter the values for the custom definition. |

Reset to blank |
Select the check box to reset the part to a blank value when a higher order part is incremented. |

Start from zero |
Select the check box to start from zero on issue. |
|
Clear lower parts on issue |
Select the check box to clear lower parts on issue. |

Lower case |
Select the check box to specify lower case characters for Alphabetic numbering. |

Exclude |
Select the check box to include ‘I’ and ‘O’ characters within Alphabetic numbering. |

Separator |
Select from the drop-down list to define the symbol used as a separator between numbering values. |
|
Prefix |
Input a value in the field to define a prefix for the revision number. |

Fixed length |
Select the check box to define a fixed length for each number value. By default, If the number string is not long enough, 0 is added to Numeric values and A is added to Alphabetic values. For example, if a Numeric string is 23 and the fixed length value is 5. Multiple 0s are added to display 00023. |

Length of part |
Input a value in the field to define the number of characters used for a fixed length. |

Test |
Click Test to display the Test Revision Number window.
The Test Revision Number window clearly displays the numbering system defined for the revision number. Click OK to close the Test Revision Number window. The user is returned to the Revision Number Definition window. |
Click OK to save the Revision Number Definition or Cancel to discard any inputs and close the Revision Number Definition window.
