Create Layout Template / Report Definition

Creates a layout template or report definition.

  1. From the AVEVA application, open Reporting.

    For example, in AVEVA E3D Design, on the Tools tab, in the Report group, click Designer to display the Report Designer window.

  2. On the Report Designer tab, in the Report group, click New Report to display the New Report window.

  3. Select the path from the Look in drop-down list. Alternatively, click <Browse> to navigate to the location containing the layout template or report definition.

    These locations correspond to the following folders:

    • Product: %AVEVA_DESIGN_DFLTS%\Data\Reports

    • Project: %<PRJ>INFO%\Reports

    • User: %AVEVA_DESIGN_USER%\Data\Reports

  4. On the Layout Template tab, select the layout template for the report definition.

  5. Click Create to open the layout template. Modify the layout using the various available controls.

  6. On the Report Designer tab, in the AVEVA group, click Data Source to display the Data Source Wizard.

    The Data Source Wizard can be used to define the data for the report.

    • Select New to define a new data source.

    • Select Copy to copy an existing data source defined in LEXICON or the file system.

    • Select Edit to modify the existing data source associated with report definition.

      Click Next.

  7. Input the name and description for the data source and click Next.

  8. Select the element types to be included in the report and click Next.

  9. To limit the number of elements returned by the data source, define attribute filters, and click Next.

  10. Select the attributes to be included in the report for the specified element types and click Next.

  11. If required, click Back to modify the defined data.

  12. Click Finish when the data is defined, the Data Source Columns grid on the right-hand side displays the attributes selected in the data source.

  13. Drag and drop or use Smart tags to bind the attributes from the Field List tab of the Report Explorer window to various controls in the report.

  14. Click the Print Preview tab to display a preview of the current layout with the first 20 records available from the associated data source.

  15. On the Report Designer tab, in the AVEVA group, click Run Report to run the report definition using the available data from the currently bound data source.

  16. The Print Preview tab on the Run Report window can be used to:

    • Export the report to various file types

    • Print the report

    • Publish the report to AVEVA Net [AVEVA Asset Information Management].

      Note: In AVEVA Unified Engineering - Model or Engineer, the Publish to AVEVA NET function is no longer available. Instead you can use the Gateway function on the Interfaces tab or the Manage tab. For more information, see Model - Publish Using User Interface or Engineer - Publishing Using User Interface.

    • Apply watermarks and modify the page setup.

  17. Close the Run Report window to return to the Report Designer window.

  18. On the Report Designer tab, in the Report group, select Save from the Save drop-down menu to save the current report definition as a layout template or report definition.
