Create Nested Assembly

  • Last UpdatedJul 01, 2025

Creates a nested assembly which is constructed using a set of individual symbol, drawing and annotation elements.

The symbol palette that the nested assembly is to be created in, below the assemblies node, must be selected on the Setup Explorer prior to creation.

On the Drawing tab, in the Create group, select Assembly and select Nested from the dropdown menu to display the Create new Nested Assembly window.

Type a unique name for the nested assembly.

If the name is not unique, an error message displays summarizing the problem.

Drag and drop existing symbols from the symbol palette, draw and annotate the nested assembly using the blank drawing canvas, the nested assembly is created as a member element of the currently selected symbol palette on the Setup Explorer. By default, the Graphical Canvas - Symbol Editor tab is displayed.

The Attributes window indicates the assembly type.

Use the Attributes window to define the associated connection point definitions for each symbol in the assembly.

The example displays a nested assembly named PC-Telephone Connection. The nested assembly contains three symbol elements with intelligent text and intelligent connection points.

A marker point can be added to a nested assembly to define the origin point of the assembly when placed onto the drawing canvas in the Engineer module.

Refer to Add Marker Point, Setup Explorer, Symbol Editor, Create Symbol, Create Symbol Template with Extensible Symbols, Create Object Assembly, Create Component Assembly and Attributes for further information.
