Add Annotation Breaks

  • Last UpdatedOct 03, 2025
  • 2 minute read

Annotation breaks can be used as a specification break to display the change in the value of an attribute. For example, the pipeline specification, tracing specification, insulation specification or primary system of a piping network segment.

Annotation breaks are added to the drawing canvas by dragging from the Symbol Palette.

The annotation break can be rotated to the correct orientation and positioned directly on the drawing canvas.

Position the leader line grip at the connection point of the two items at which the break is required.

Modify the required attribute of the item at which the break is required. For example, a centerline.

The annotation break displays the attribute on both sides of the connection point. The annotation break acts as a stop point for the propagation of the attribute value with which it is associated. The propagation of attribute values that are not associated with the annotation break is not affected.

The following attributes can be specified for an annotation break:

  • Insulation Specification

  • Piping Specification

  • Tracing Specification

  • System Specification

    Note:
Specific attributes are available in the Configuration module to define the split point options for the placement of annotation breaks on P&ID Drawings.

Split Pipe

Annotation breaks can be defined to split at pipe level which splits the piping network system and piping network segment when the annotation break is added to the drawing canvas. The Create window displays.

Upstream

A piping network system and piping network segment are created upstream of the connection point of the two items at which the break is required.

Downstream

A piping network system and piping network segment are created downstream of the connection point of the two items at which the break is required.

Split Branch

Annotation breaks can be defined to split at branch level which splits the piping network segment when the annotation break is added to the drawing canvas. By default, a piping network segment is created downstream of the connection point of the two items at which the break is required.

No Split

Annotation breaks can be defined not to split the piping network system or piping network segment.

Refer to Symbol Palette and P&ID Annotation Break Attributes for further information.
