Reporting supports two report file formats.
Layout Templates - Reportname.repx
These report files contain formatting, graphics and presentation. They contain no data source and cannot be run. These report files can be used to distribute a common look and feel for use in reports across a company and/or project. Refer to Create Layout Template / Report Definition for further information.
Reports - Reportname.repv
These report files can contain formatting, graphics and presentation, and can be created from a Layout Template. In addition to the layout, they also contain a data source, and can be run. A .repv file can be saved as a .repx file (On the Report Designer tab, in the Report group, select Save As from the Save drop-down menu; refer to Save As for further information). The formatting and layout of a report (.repv) can be saved but the data source is discarded, choosing this option displays a warning that the data source is lost.
Reports contain a data source and are independent of user or project settings. Reports can be shared across projects, as long as each project has the same control and attribute structures defined in the report data source.
