Note:
DBs can also be created automatically as part of the Inter-Discipline Project Creation process.
To create a database, click Database and Extracts on the Manage tab. Click Create. You are prompted to create either a normal Primary (Master) DB or An Extract of a DB:

If you select Master DB, the Create Database window is displayed:

The database name is shown at the top of the window. Database names are in the format:
TeamName/DatabaseName
where TeamName is the name of the team which owns the database, and which therefore has write access to it. If there is no current team, the database name will be shown as unset/unset. If there is a current team, the team name will be shown as the first part of the database name.
Select the Owning Team from the scrollable list.
Note:
The Sort by and Filter option: refer to Teams and Users, for further information.
Specify a database name in the Name text field and, optionally, a Description.
Select a Database Type from the drop-down list:
-
Design
-
Draft
-
Catalogue
-

-

-

-

A suffix is added to the label of the Create field. For example if Design is selected as the database type, the Create field is renamed Create SITE.
Select an element type from the Element Type list. The element types available for selection depends upon the selected database type.
Note:
In AVEVA E3D, the commenting world should not be created in the Design database, but
in the commenting database. However, in earlier versions such as AVEVA 12.0 SP 4 the
Commenting World should be created in the Design DB.
Select the product in which the database is to be authored: The selector provides a list of products that are relevant to the database type that is currently selected. For example, Draft databases can be created for use in Everything3D or in Engineering products.
From the Multiwrite Claim list, select the claim mode. For more information about multiwrite databases, refer to Multiwrite Databases and Extracts.
If selected, the Controlled check box specifies that database access is controlled by an external system. For more information, refer to CONTROLLED Databases.
If selected, the Reference Only check box specifies that the created database contains only elements that represent information that can be updated from both 2D and 3D applications, for example piping or cabling systems.
If the Protected check box is selected, the databases are marked as uniquely belonging to the project from which it was protected, such that restricted users cannot copy data from that database into another project, even through a physical copy of the database file. The following functionality is unavailable when Protected is checked:
-
OUTPUT command
-
COPY command, when copying across databases
-
EXPORT command
-
Data Access Routines (DARs)
In addition read across to certain attributes is restricted to prevent unauthorized users from writing their own output like functionality in PML.
With Protected selected, you can specify an expiry data. Enabling the Expires check box highlights the date pull-downs based on today’s date.

The date entered must be valid and in the future. Invalid dates and past dates output an error message and grey out Apply.

The Area Number, DB Number and File Number are normally set by the system, as shown by the word System entered in the text boxes. It may sometimes be necessary to set them manually.
-
The Area Number is used if the user needs to store databases in a different directory. Refer to Distributed Databases, for further information. The user can reset this attribute by clicking System to the right of the text box.
-
The DB Number is used internally by the AVEVA base product to identify the database. When a database is copied or an extract is made, the copy or extract keeps the same DB number as its parent. The user cannot have more than one database with the same DB number in the same MDB (unless the database is a Working Extract, refer to Types of Extracts. The DB number for a user database must be in the range 1 – 7000 or 10000 – 250000. Number between 7001 – 9999 and 250001 - 255000 are reserved for AVEVA Solutions use. If the user tries to create a new database between the specified range, an error message is displayed. To reset this attribute by clicking System to the right of the textbox. Clicking Project allows the user to create a database within the project’s range.
-
The File Number is used in generating the filename of the database. For example, a database in project abc with file number 12 will be stored in the file named abc012. The File Number text box will only accept values in the range of 1-8192. This value entered must be unique within the project. If the value is set to System (using the button next to the text box) then the file number will be set to 0. This is recommended, particularly if the user is going to use extracts, as it will make sure that filenames are consistent within an extract family. In modify mode, the text box is inactive: the user can only change the file number to 0 by clicking System.
Select Set/Reset Password to use password protection on the database.
Or
Select Delete Password to remove the password protection from the database.
Click Apply, to create the database.
Note:
In a Unified Engineering – Spectrum project, a savework must be performed to make
the created database available.
