Firewall Configuration

The primary objective of a firewall implementation is to provide security to an organization's network. In simple terms, a firewall solution enables only certain applications to communicate from ‘the outside world’ (for example the Internet) to the organization's network, and vice versa. To enable these applications to function, specific ‘communication’ ports need to be open. The fewer ports open within a firewall, the less chance there is of security breaches.

Under situations where Global is implemented within an environment that has no firewall set up, Global will function without any specific network configuration (other than the requirements outlined under Global > IT Configuration on the Knowledge and Support Center and in the AVEVA Global User Guide). However, when a Global project is to be deployed between two or more locations that have firewall implementations, certain ports need to be open in order for Global to function.
