Change Primary - Repair Process

If there is a need to move the location of the Primary database the Change Primary functionality should be used. However, it is important that the Change Primary operation completes before Deallocate is done because the system will lose identification of where Primary actually is and Deallocate will fail. The term Transient is used to describe this scenario - ADMIN reports

(1,529) Cannot deallocate DB /*CTBATEST/ISOD at LOC /CAMBRIDGE - relocation already in progress

The following recovery procedure is necessary:

• RECOVER <db> AT <primary-location> FROM <a selected secondary location>

• PREVOWN <db> - to recover its previous primary location

• Then CHANGE PRIMARY can be repeated

• Wait for its completion before issuing DEALLOCATE
