Terminations

Use the Terminations window to terminate cable cores and wires, to add links and looping wires and to manage terminal strip terminals.
Note: Changes made to terminations and to cable and wiring connections using this window are reflected in the associated drawings (e.g. Loop Diagrams and Termination Diagrams) once the changes are saved and the drawings are updated or reopened.
Graphical Display
Graphically displays the item’s terminations.
Selected terminals, equipment, cables, cores and wires are highlighted in light blue.
If the terminal for a signal owning object such as an instrument has been assigned a Polarity and a signal is assigned to the terminal or propagated via wiring/terminations, the Propagated Signals attribute is shown. The Propagated Signal attribute shows concatenated ‘Signal ’+’polarity’:
Click on an item to select it. To select multiple items, hold down Ctrl while clicking on the items.
If a terminal marking is blue instead of black, this indicates that the terminal has signals propagating to or through it.
Find
Use to find and select items in the graphical display.
Displays the Find window.
Scale To Fit
Scales the graphical display to fit all the items in it.
-, + and Slider
Zooms the graphical display in and out.
Overview
Displays a small window in the bottom-right corner of the window displaying an overview of the graphical display.
Refresh
Used to refresh the graphical display if it does not automatically update.
Terminals right-click menu
Note:
Irrespective of the order in which the terminals are created in a terminal arrangement,
the default intelligent text and terminal markings for the Left, Right, Top and Bottom
terminals are always numbered in matching sequence from 1.

Change Terminal Marking |
Used to change the terminal marking (and to edit wire numbers attached to the terminal, if any). Displays the Change terminal marking window. |

Select By... |
Used to select every second, third, fourth, or fifth terminal, depending on the sub-menu option selected.
|
|
Set Terminal Reservation |
Used to set the left, right or both sides of the selected terminal as "reserved", depending on the sub-menu option selected. An option is also available to clear the reservation.

|
Set Spare Terminals |
Used to set the left, right or both sides of the selected terminal as "spare", depending on the sub-menu option selected. A "Clear" option is also available to undo this setting.
Connected terminals cannot be set as spare. Spare terminals are indicated with blue shading.

Change Terminal Type |
Used to set or change the type of the terminal. For example, from feed-through to feed-through with fuse. Displays the Change Terminal Type window. |

Change terminal sequence |
Used to change the order in which cores are connected to terminals. Displays the Change terminations sequence window. |
|
Connect Wire to terminal in another editor |
Used to connect a wire to the terminal of equipment in a different Terminations window. For example, to a terminal in another enclosure or a different mounting plate within the same enclosure. Select a terminal in one Terminations window. Open the other Terminations window, select the other terminal, right-click on it, and then select the Connect Wire to terminal in another editor option. |

Delete Terminal |
Used to delete the selected terminals. The following confirmation message is displayed:

Split terminal |
Used to split the selected terminal. |
Cables right-click menu
|
Disconnect Core |
Used to disconnect the cable core from the terminal. |
|
Disconnect Cable |
Used to disconnect the cable and all its cores from all terminals. |
Wires right-click menu
|
Disconnect Wire |
Used to disconnect the wire from the terminal. |
|
Properties |
Used to display the properties of the wire. |
Terminal Strip right-click menu
|
Append Terminals to Terminal Strip |
Used to add terminals to a terminal strip, displays the Terminal Pattern window. |

Assign Signal to Terminal |
Used to assign signals to terminals in a terminal strip to perform tasks such as auto-cross patching. Displays a window for performing this procedure. |
IO Module right-click menu
Used to assign signals to IO module channels to perform tasks such as auto-cross patching and IO allocation to provide to control system vendors.
Displays the Assign Signal to Channel window.
Connections
Used to connect terminals selected in the preview with links (bridges), looping wires, and wires.

Type |
Specifies the type of connection to be made.
|

Left / Normal / Right and |
Specifies the where on the selected terminals the connections will be made.
|
|
Connect - Add |
Used to create connections, such as links, wires and looping wires, between selected terminals. If a connection would result in a signal already assigned to a channel being assigned to a different channel, the option to remove the remove the assigned signal from the original channel is available via the Remove Assigned Signal window. |

Cables/Wiring - Cross-Patch
Automatically creates wired connections between terminals with matching signals/polarity.
Show ferrule numbers
Controls whether or not ferrule numbers are shown on cable cores in the graphical display.
Cables Tab
Cables Grid
Lists all cables that are connected (at either the From or To end) to the current equipment.
All the cores in a cable can terminated in one action by selecting the cable in the cable list and then dragging and dropping the cable onto a terminal. For example:
The selected terminal will be highlighted in pink. "Drop" the cable on the terminal to make the connection. For example:
Cable grid right-click menu

Assign Cable Connectors |
Used to assign the plugs and sockets to the selected cable.
Displays the Assign Cable Connectors window. |
Add New Cable 
Used to create a new cable which will then be listed in the grid and available for termination at the equipment.
Displays the Cable Details window.
Cores Grid
Lists all the cores of a selected cable that are not terminated. This includes internal cables (connected at both ends to sub-equipment inside the current enclosure) and external cables (the selected enclosure is the From or To object for one end of the cable). As cores are terminated, they are removed form this list.
Cores are marked with an (F) or (T) after their markings in the Marking column to denote that they are from or to cores.
Used to link cores to terminals by clicking on a (non-tied back) core in the list and dragging and dropping it onto the terminal. For example:

Wires Tab
Wires Grid
Lists all available wires that are not yet terminated. As they are terminated, they are removed form this list. If a wire is disconnected at one end, it is added to the list
Used to link wires to terminals by clicking on a wire in the list and dragging and dropping it onto the terminal. For example:

Bulk Wiring Section
Used to connected terminals with wires in "bulk".
Enable
Used to turn on the bulk wiring facility. When this facility is on, each terminal clicked on in the graphical display is added in turn to either the From Terminals or To Terminals list and highlighted in the display.
Clicking a terminal again deselects it and removes it from the lists.
Connect
Used to connect the terminals in the From and To Terminals lists. Each terminal is connected to the terminal opposite it in the lists. There must be an equal number of terminals in each list.
If selected terminals have been set as spares, this message is displayed:
Connecting a terminal that was set as spare will remove its spare status,
Up and Down 
Used to move a selected terminal or terminals selected in the From and To Terminals lists up and down the list.
Slider
Used to switch the focus between the From and To Terminals lists. This can also be done by clicking.
From Terminals
When this area is selected, terminals clicked on in the graphical display will be added to this list. The number of terminals currently in the list is displayed after the list title.
To Terminals
When this area is selected, terminals clicked on in the graphical display will be added to this list. The number of terminals currently in the list is displayed after the list title.
