Expunge Phantom Users

Sometimes, users exit abnormally from the AVEVA base product. This can happen, for example if there is a machine failure or a system fault. Abnormal exits can leave phantom users in the AVEVA base product. You can clear phantom users from the system and release their claims.

Click Expunge on the Home tab for these options:

  • User Process
    This releases claimed elements in multi-write databases.

  • Claimlist
    You can select one or more databases from which to expunge the claimlist.

  • All Users
    Expunges all users. Use this option with care.

Expunge user process

  1. Select Expunge>User Process.
    The Expunge User Process window is displayed. By default, the window displays only active users. The current user is indicated by an asterisk (*). Optionally, select Including spare (expunged slots) to include expunged users too:

    Note: You cannot expunge the current user process.

  2. (Optional) It is good practice where possible to contact users by mail or phone before expunging. This gives them time to save their work and exit the product gracefully. If you simply expunge, the user will lose the unsaved work in their session and be ejected from the product.

  3. Click Expunge.

Expunge claimlist

Important: Use this option with extreme caution in live projects. Expunging all users loses all unsaved data in all current user sessions. Be aware that, when a project is being used as a reference, this process will not remove the readers from projects that use this project as a reference. Therefore, after expunging all users, it remains possible to still have readers on the project data.
